Between December 1st and 12th, almost our entire team moved to Saba Saba grounds to exhibit as part of the Uhuru Celebrations.
The exhibitions were held as part of the celebrations to commemorate 50 years of independence in Tanzania. These exhibitions involved mainly government ministries and institutions. Kivuko’s presence was justified through our involvement with COSTECH and DTBI, two institutions that fall under the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology.
Twelve whole days of interacting and meeting potential Kivuko customers and venders. Lucky us, our booth also got visited by ex Tanzanian Prime Minster, Frederick Sumaye and the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Hon Charles Kitwanga.
Too bad the President didn’t make it to our booth on Sunday, although he was in the area

In response to several customers inquiring about lower pricing we have decided to provide more information regarding product pricing at kivuko.com.We do understand purchasing power of most Tanzanians and we want to deliver products that reflects their buying power. We are working hard to close the gap in pricing of different products.
Regarding a few ‘expensive’ products in Kivuko we have the following answers:-
- Some product pricing are unavoidable, and reflects what we receive from our distributors. We do try to get the lowest pricing possible, but we do that carefully to avoid poor quality products.
- Taxes in Tanzania are very high,as high as 50% of the pricing we get from our distributors who most of them are based overseas (adding in shipping and handling charges sometimes results in higher pricing).
- We prefer quality over quantity. We are very proud to tell you that any product you find in Kivuko is genuine and authentic, just as anything you can find in reputable western vendors(in US,UK,Japan,EU,Australia etc). We do realize the availability of cheaper “refurbished” or knockout products being sold at lower pricing.Although, we can promise you that, we will never compromise our products’ Quality just to have cheaper prices displaying on our website.
- Some prices are higher just because we are “slow” at updating lower pricing available for that particular product(less than 1%).When this happens just inform us of the particular product and the pricing you have seen somewhere else(a link to that store will be appreciated). You can do so by using our support email or contact us form.we assure you that we will make uppermost efforts to update to a fair pricing.
Above were the reasons why you sometimes find higher pricing in kivuko, although we have large amount of products with lower than average pricing.we can’t sit down and not do anything about the situation.
What we can do now
- Try to source products from other suppliers who often offer cheaper pricing, encase there is a high quality alternative.
- Update our pricing regularly to match current market pricing.
- Improve our logistics to lower final costs of delivering the products to suppliers.
What you can do as a customer
- Bulk purchasing often results in lower shipping charges and lower products pricing.Example,if one purchases 3 phones he/she will be charged a single shipping fee as well as single handling fee.
- Join as a Member of Kivuko. Our members do enjoy benefits that unregistered members can not get.You are bound to enjoy frequent discounts and coupon codes aimed at lowering pricing and streamlining your shopping experience.
- You can subscribe to our newsletter to get regular news about kivuko, discounts, promotions and many other activities going on at kivuko.
What we will do in the future
- Being at its initial stages,E-commerce in Tanzania faces some roadblocks that will decrease over time;taxes, tariffs and other logistics problems are bound to decrease significantly once people get a grasp of E-commerce and explore its advantages. Once that is realized you will see even pricing between kivuko and worlds biggest online stores like amazon etc.
- We predict our growth in exponential levels in a three years time. This will balance out most costs and make our products more affordable and cheaper.

When you go shopping for a flat panel TV, you will encounter two types: plasma and LCD. How do these two types differ? And which one is right for you? Each type has its advantages, and knowing more about them will help you choose the one that’s best suited for your home.

As you can see from this chart, plasma is a better choice for a large-screen TV to be used in a living room because of its capabilities for motion display and color reproduction. Continue reading →
